Who Are The North Carolina State Elks?

The North Carolina State Elks Association is a vital part of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE) of the United States of America. Founded in 1868, the Elks is one of the nation’s oldest and largest fraternal organizations, dedicated to serving communities, supporting veterans, and investing in youth development.

While Elks Lodges may be known for their clubhouses, golf courses, or recreational pools, the heart of these lodges is far more profound. They serve as gathering places for neighbors, provide a space for families to share meals, and are pillars in their local communities. More importantly, they work to make a lasting impact on the lives of individuals and families by creating opportunities for growth, support, and connection.

Investing in Communities

The North Carolina State Elks Association (NCSEA) is deeply committed to improving the quality of life in the state by providing support to both veterans and children. Their programs aim to help children grow up healthy, drug-free, and empowered while also addressing the needs of today’s veterans.

The NCSEA has identified several major charitable activities that are central to their mission:

-
Support for North Carolina State Veterans Homes: One of the NCSEA's primary initiatives is to support the needs of North Carolina’s veterans. This includes funding to ensure that state veterans homes are properly equipped to meet the health, emotional, and social needs of our heroes. Each year, the NCSEA evaluates the needs of these facilities and works with state Directors to determine appropriate funding. The association’s commitment is made through an annual state budget, which is subject to member approval.
-
Camp Carefree: The NCSEA also provides significant support to Camp Carefree, located in Stokesdale, North Carolina. Camp Carefree is a unique facility that serves chronically ill and disabled children, along with their siblings and children of parents who are dealing with chronic illness or disability. This camp offers children the chance to enjoy typical camp activities in a safe and supportive environment, making it a special place for families who face unique challenges. The NCSEA assesses the needs of Camp Carefree regularly, ensuring that the facility has the necessary funding to continue offering its invaluable services.
More Than Just a Lodge

Elks Lodges are not just about socializing—they are about making a real difference. Through initiatives like supporting veterans’ homes and Camp Carefree, the North Carolina State Elks Association demonstrates its deep commitment to those in need. The association’s charitable activities are driven by the goal of building stronger communities, fostering personal growth, and creating lasting memories for children and families alike.

Whether it’s through funding critical programs or providing a space for people to come together, the North Carolina State Elks Association continues to uphold the values of the Elks—charity, community, and camaraderie. They are much more than an organization; they are a force for good, working to improve lives across the state of North Carolina.
