Calabash Elks Take Local Veterans Fishing

Local Veterans Enjoy a Morning of Fishing at Sunset Beach Pier and Lunch at Calabash Elks Lodge #2679

Calabash, NC – May 20, 2026 – Six local veterans residing at Arbor Landing Assisted Living were treated to a special day of community, relaxation, and angling on Wednesday, as they embarked on a fishing trip to the Sunset Beach Pier.

The outing offered the residents—who have proudly served across various branches of the military—a chance to enjoy the beautiful coastal scenery, cast their lines into the Atlantic, and share stories from their time in the service. For many of the participants, the trip was a welcome return to a beloved lifelong hobby.

Following a successful morning on the pier, the group returned to the Calabash Elks Lodge for lunch. The Elks Lodge members welcomed the veterans with open arms, providing a meal and continuing the day’s camaraderie.

"Our veterans have given so much to our country, and it is an honor to provide them with experiences that bring them joy and keep them connected to the local community," said John F. Corbett, Ret. Col Army, Chairman of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee at the Calabash Elks Lodge. "Seeing the smiles on their faces out on the pier, and the incredible hospitality shown by the Calabash Elks Lodge and the Sunset Pier management, made this a truly unforgettable day for everyone involved.”

Arbor Landing extended its thanks to the staff at Sunset Beach Pier and the members of the Calabash Elks Lodge for their generosity and support in making this event possible.
