Rocky Mount Elks #1038 — Greatly Involved in Their Community
For the members of Rocky Mount Elks Lodge #1038, being an Elk means much more than what happens inside the Lodge. It means being present in the community, recognizing those who serve, supporting local students, and finding meaningful ways to give back.
That commitment was recently recognized when the Lodge was named Business of the Season by the Nashville Chamber of Commerce. The honor reflects the Lodge’s continued involvement in Nashville and the surrounding community and, most importantly, the dedication of the members and volunteers who make that involvement possible.
One example of that community spirit was the Lodge’s recent recognition of Nashville Police Chief Caleb Shockley for his service and devotion to the community. Chief Shockley was presented with an American flag by the Lodge in recognition of his service. He also received a North Carolina flag that had been flown over the North Carolina General Assembly at the request of David Boykin and was presented by Sean Harrington on behalf of Rep. Allen Chesser.
The presentation was especially fitting for an organization with such a strong tradition of honoring the American flag. Since 1908, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks has formally observed Flag Day, and Rocky Mount Lodge continues that tradition while recognizing individuals who demonstrate service and commitment to their country and community.
The Lodge has also been busy supporting those who protect local students. Members recently hosted the Nash County Public Schools School Resource Officers Appreciation Luncheon, providing an opportunity to thank the SROs who work each day to protect, mentor, and support students and school staff throughout the county.
Supporting young people is another important part of the Lodge’s community involvement. Members volunteered at the ticket booth during the Blooming Festival, and proceeds received for their participation were put right back into the community through scholarships for local graduating seniors.
After reviewing essays submitted by applicants, the Lodge selected three deserving students to each receive a $1,000 scholarship. Members had the opportunity to recognize the students alongside their families and celebrate their accomplishments as they prepared for the next chapter of their lives.
Whether they are volunteering at a community festival, supporting local students, honoring law enforcement officers, or recognizing those who serve their neighbors, the members of Rocky Mount Elks Lodge #1038 continue to demonstrate the Elks' commitment to Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity.
Being named Business of the Season is a wonderful honor, but the Lodge’s many activities tell an even bigger story: Rocky Mount Elks #1038 is greatly involved in its community—and its members are working to make that community stronger.
